Royal Society of Medicine Pain Essay Prize
Monty Lyman was awarded the 2020 Andrew Lawson Pain Medicine Prize. This award encourages any UK-based doctor (below Consultant level) to submit an essay on the subject of ‘Long-term pain, sleep and pain medications: vicious circles or good cycles?’ Monty was invited to give a talk on pain, sleep and opioids at The Royal Society of Medicine’s pain webinar on 7 September 2020. He argued the case that, while pain impacts sleep, sleep deprivation has a powerful effect on worsening pain.
Royal Society Science Book Prize
In 2019, The Remarkable of the Skin was shortlisted for the Royal Society Science Book Prize. The Guardian has described the award as ‘the most prestigious science book prize in Britain’.
Cleared for launch!
On 12 July 2019, friends and family gathered for the book launch of The Remarkable Life of the Skin.
Monty and his wonderful editor, Andrea Henry, shared a few words and Monty’s messy signature made its mark on the first batch of books.
